ELF podcasts looking at law and the reintroduction of species
ELF is delighted to bring to its members two exciting podcasts looking at the law and reintroduction of species through a collaboration between ELF and Law Pod UK. A plethora of different reintroductions have been making big news recently, with such charismatic species as Beavers and Red Kites being just some of the amazing stories we will explore. Working with Rosalind English and Coral Day this is ELF’s first foray into podcast partnership working. Thanks to 1COR and Law Pod UK Carol and Rosalind.
Pod1 - Right species, right place- It’s 30 years since the first Red Kite reintroduction in the Chilterns. Interviewed by Rosalind English, Dr Mark Avery from Wild Justice and Carol Day consultant solicitor at Leigh Day and ELF Trustee are interviewed about how well projects for the Red Kite and the White-Tailed Sea Eagle are working. They will also strike a note of caution about the Hen Harrier Southern reintroduction proposal. Dr Nikki Gammansfrom the Bumble Bee Conservation Trust and Project Leader will talk about the re-introduction of the Short Tailed Bumble Bee – having been taken to NZ in colonial times, a population remained in NZ whilst it had gone extinct in the UK. Nikki was in charge of the programme to bring them back to UK and tells her amazing story.
Pod2 - ELF is acting for local residents in the Forest of Dean on a translocation of pine martens from Scotland. We discuss bats, other protected species and the relative success of the introduction of beavers to the British Isles.
